MORT
Mort started his life like most of
us, as a baby. From there he got older and bigger,
learning all he could of the world. As a child
everything seemed to interest young Mort, but
one thing in particular would catch his
attention and change his life forever!
This event took place on March 23, 1978. Mort
was on the bus staring out te window when it drove
past a radio tower, his head went straight up
and he was amazed at what he saw! He knew they
existed, but had never noticed what he noticed
that day- the birds were naked! Sure, Mort had
seen birds every day but had never thought of
the fact that they're up there naked as, well,
a jaybird. From this point on, Mort swore that
he would become the world's first bird clothing
designer and in the early 1980's his dreams came
true! He couldn't have done it, though, without
all the help from KLH's own Dave, a fellow bird
lover. Mort met Dave one day in the park, Dave
was yelling at the ducks, asking them, "Have
you no dignity?! There are children present!"
Dave was never comfortable bird watching, he felt
it was a bit discourteous, what with the lack
of apparel. Dave and Mort became fast friends.
The two soon began working day and night sewing
little hats and tiny boots for the feathered friends
of the world. The two got along so well that Dave
decided to offer Mort a job working for the radio,
Mort figured this would be the perfect venue to
spread the word of his true passion, so he agreed
and quickly became a favorite which lead to Mort
becoming a solid fixture of the morning show on
WKLH.
